of this Court the Deemsters take upon them
to Remit Suspend and mitigate the fines
and imprisonment ad libitum even after
the offenders have been imprisoned under the
Judgement — This is in effect granting a
pardon and appears to me to be an
usurpation of the highest branch of the
Royal Prerogative which can only be
legally extended by the Sovereign or his
immediate Representative —

In the Appointment of Coroners the
Deemsters seem to think themselves intitled
to the Nomination as a matter belonging to
their Office — This I humbly Conceive to be
wrong. And tho' it is Pretended that the
nomination of the Coroners by the Deemster
gives him a more particular Control over
the Conduct of Coroners yet I do apprehend
that the less the Deemsters have to do with
the Appointment of Coroners the better
for we may see the Day if we have not
