Clarke re death of Norris Moore - 16 May 1818

Dear Sir
The death of Mr Norris Moore, first Deemster of the isle of Mann, has been
some what sudden - the excess and abuse of spirits has killed him, as it did
his predecessor Deemster Crellin. He (Moore) was a man of strong, though uncultivated
mind, and far supassed the next of the Manx Lawyers - His death may lead (sooner
perhaps than one could have wished) to an enquiry very material to the happiness
of the Island - Lord Sidmouth just alluded to it the other day - As the surviving
Deemster may hold Courts in any part of the Island, there will be no interruption
of business - The regulation of the Deemsters' Courts, and a steady, periodical
administration of the Lands are the great points to be considered
